Mildred T. Amidon, Dedham Native, Dies

Mildred Therese (MacDonald) Amidon, formerly of Dedham, Marshfield and Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., passed away peacefully on Oct. 20, 2012.

She was near her residence at Silver Lake Wingate in Kingston, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick E. "Ozzie" Amidon, they enjoyed 45 years of marriage and provided for four children, Debra Mae and her husband Dr. Clinton C. Ackerman, Martin C. (deceased), Frederick E. and his wife Connie Dempsey, and Lt. Col. Kenneth W. and his wife Karen Mirarchi.

She leaves 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous relatives she cherished and mentored for years.

Daughter of immigrants from Scotland and Ireland, she served for decades as the matriarch of the MacDonald clan - originating from Nova Scotia.

During World War II, she worked as a riveter and welder at Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. She also was employed as a mail carrier in the Marshfield Post Office before retiring to Florida.

A Mass and celebration of Mildred's joys and talents, all of which she shared selflessly, was held Oct. 26, at 9 a.m. at Saint Josephs Parish, 270 Main St. (Rte. 106), Kingston. Interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
