"We wanted to do something special to celebrate this special day - and to thank Ron and Pat for creating one Dedham Square's great institutions," said McMurtry, owner of the The Dedham Community Theatre.

He also believes that the opening is a sign that spring isn't too far away.

"It's like the first crocus coming up," he said. "New Englanders love their ice cream and while Ron's probably would be mobbed in the winter if they stayed open year round, it is actually a fun tradition to have to wait until the first of March to get a scoop."
