Dedham's Florentino Taken By Buffalo Sabres in Fifth Round

Dedham's Anthony Florentino was the fifth round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in today's NHL draft in Newark, N.J. He was the third fifth round selection by Buffalo.
An offensive defenseman, Florentino played at the South Kent School in Connecticut where he had 21 goals and 32 assists for 53 points.
Florentino is committed to Providence College in the fall to play for Friars.
"“He can hit like a truck,” said coach Matt Plante in an article in the Hockey News. “And one of his best abilities is the way he can escape opponents with the puck.”
The right-handed shooter is regarded as a possible future standout in the NHL
“He’s really started to identify his strengths as a player,” Plante said in the Hockey News before the season  “It’s just been an assault all season. He has an unbelievable trigger and he wants the puck. He’s a go-getter.”
NHL scouts view Florentino as a player without any glaring weakness, who is going to reach his potential after playing in college.
Florentino said in article on the South Kent's website that is he really looking to play for the Friars.
“The coaches are all great guys and the campus is beautiful,” Florentino said in the article. “If I wasn’t playing hockey, I’d still want to go there.”
