IMR - I don't live in Dedham! (I think you knew that). But I'm active in the community and have an active voice. I'm also a Square Business Owner. By the way - Hi Steve!

Peter H. Reynolds - Founder & Visionary of the Dedham Square Circle, New York Times best-selling author and illustrator, and owner of two Dedham Square businesses, should be nomited as Mayor of Dedham, MA. His continual selfless volunteer and monetary support of Dedham, MA has ignited passion amongst Square Business owners, residents, and volunteers to make the commercial center of Dedham more vibrant and active over the past 12 years. His drive, dedication, and support of those civically involved in the town is incredible and remarkable. He deserves our support to guarantee a brighter future in Dedham, MA for years to come.

  • On the article Question of the Day Topic: Westwood Station Taxes

This payment really won't move the project forward in the least. Commonfund barely had enough money to pay out the taxes owed on the property, let alone the interest that built up while the project was passed around like a hot potato from developer to developer.

In these dreadful financial times, a project of this scale won't budge an inch. Westwood will use the money for much needed town-wide services, and that's just about it.

Residents will continue to feel the real estate tax pain over the next few years, and won't really benefit from the recent lump sum payout from Commonfund. Westwood needs development solutions from qualified investors and developers if they sincerely want to lessen the resident's high tax burden, and give some of the responsibility back to the commercial property owners, who are few and far between these days.

  • On the article Question of the Day: What Do You Think of the Verizon Strike?

    Greg Agnew

    3:17 pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2011

I think it's certainly the right thing to do, especially in the wake of Verizon's massive fiber-optic cable line installation, a booming cable business, and overall expansion of their satellite network. It's quite obvious that the CEOs of companies, especially the CEO of Verizon, is stuffing his pockets with a larger-than-necessary salary and huge bonuses, while the men and women on the front lines, the people who allow the company function, are getting the short end of the stick.

The economic crisis that we're experiencing now, is the fault of Big Bank, and Big Corporation CEOs (including Verizon's own Ivan Seidenberg), who donate huge chunks of their income to candidates running for public office to ensure policy is voted on "correctly."

These workers have a right to strike, and perhaps, just maybe, Verizon will feel the pain of having 45,000+ workers striking. Hopefully prices for services will drop slightly, and a message will be sent to Verizon that treating employees and customers right is priority number one.

  • On the article State Sen. Rush Wants Online Gaming Program for Mass.

    Greg Agnew

    10:14 am on Friday, July 29, 2011

Yet another bad move by Mike Rush - supporting online gambling, and disagreeing with a State Treasurer who has far more experience in this realm than most. It's almost certain that by allowing online gambling through both gaming and through the purchasing of lottery tickets, Massachusetts would violate a federal law that prohibits the exchange of funds for gambling through the Federal Reserve by U.S. Banks and credit card companies.

Online gaming is a dangerous activity for those who have an uncontrollable addiction to it. Anyone who supports the plan, also supports putting thousands of Massachusetts residents at risk who already have a problem, potentially allowing people to plunge further into debt, risking the credit of their families, their homes, and their livelihood.

Lastly, what about all of the local, independently owned businesses in Massachusetts that sell lottery tickets, Keno, and other gambling mechanisms? Are they to suffer a loss in business because people are at home, charging their credit cards, believing they can hit it big as long as keep playing? Massachusetts isn't Las Vegas, Mike Rush, let's keep it that way. Let's protect our already hurting small business owners and give them confidence in the future of their business, while encouraging those who have a problem to seek help for their gambling addiction.

  • On the article State Politicians Want Joint Meeting on Digital Billboard

    Greg Agnew

I think it's a smart idea for both the Westwood and Dedham Boards of Selectmen to join forces and discuss this massive project proposed by the MBTA. However, I also applaud the MBTA's willingness to come before the Dedham Board of Selectmen to lay out their plans, even though it's MBTA property, not governed by either Westwood or Dedham, MA.

Clearly, a "light show" broadcast all over the Westwood and Dedham portions of Routes 128 South & North is a dangerous distraction to motorists. Even though billboards like this are present and considered the norm all over the West Coast (especially near Nevada and Arizona), us Northeast residents will be far too stunned by these massive "televisions."

Hopefully, once again, both the Dedham and Westwood governing bodies will decide that in no way will the MBTA be able to increase their annual revenues by planting one of these monstrous billboards in our own backyards, causing a potential driving hazard.

Freedom to do what you want on your own property is something I will certainly support, however, making our frequently traveled highways into a flashy commercial strip is something neither my neighbors, nor myself can support.

I feel honored and privileged to have joined with the Town of Dedham, Administrators, Civic Volunteers, and other community members for our All-America City Finalist Trip out to Kansas City, MO in June.

I'd like to once again thank each and every one of our sponsors, volunteers, and community members that made this trip and event possible. Although we did not return with a designation as an, "All-America City," we know that Dedham was a finalist for a reason.

Additionally, I'd like my fellow delegates for making the trip memorable, and something that I will surely never forget. I made new friends, learned new things, and will use the experience to make both the communities of Westwood and Dedham better for generations to come.

I go to the Post Office at least once a week, if not more. I send multiple certified mailings, send packages during the Christmas Season, and buy stamps on a regular basis. I try not to give my business to UPS, FedEx, DHL, or any independent shipper or provider of postage. I personally know many employees of the USPS, and wish to see their employment continue.

People still appreciate hand-written or typed notes, trust me!
