On the article Dedham Holds Annual 'Mini Town Meeting'

ReplyI have no issue with the licenses and this noise thing is a complete waste of time. Let me guess the folks near the IACC are sick of the music from parties? Ugh this town sometimes. $300 fines for noise. We have people making bombs and killing people and folks are complaining about a little noise. Really?

On the article Tax Bill Comparisons Shows Dedham Families Pay About Average Bill in Norfolk County

ReplyAvon you make a good point. Some towns have more growth some have less, some have more munical fees than others. Simply speaking Dedham's taxes are relatively high, but over the past 6/7 years we built 2 brand new schools, there is my favorite subject, the square, and we had the football field project and the dolan center. We have a lot of projects that we are paying for and there is talk of doing renovations to Dexter and building a new police station. So the tax situation isn't getting better anytime soon. The problem is there was too much of nothing done for too many years and now with all of this improvement in seuch a short time it's a big hit as opposed to if it was mismanaged for so long and these projects had started 10-15 years ago and it was a slow steady increase you wouldn't hear as many complaints.

ReplyThey dump the snow in the parking lot at the baseball fields not directly on the fields. Of course you can't dump snow from the streets on a ball field. This year they are utilizing the lot not used for homes that was purchased from St. Mary's which actually showed some sense. I was impressed that the town actually thought to do that.

ReplyI coached both of these boys in youth soccer. I'm proud to hear there doing so well and have become great young men on and off the ice. What a great story.

On the article Danielle Vlahos Wants to Bring Some Fresh Air to Dedham Parks and Recreation

ReplyMs. Vlahos, In all due respect you picked the wrong year to run for this. Sal Ledda is the backbone for all the special needs programs in this town. He started challenger soccer 5 years ago was the inspiration for me to get the ball rolling on the challenger basketball program and it is because of him and the other comission members that the pathfinders program exhists. While I like some of your ideas Mr. Ledda is too valuable to this board and he will be getting my vote. If you are not successful I hope you do give it another go in the future or at least go to there mettings. Fresh ideas are always needed.

On the article Rachel McGregor Believes Providing Transparency is Key for Dedham's School Committee

ReplyMrs. MacGregor, the biggest issue I see is at the Middle School/HS level. Teachers there hide behind the online tool that gives the list of assignments and shows what has and what hasn't been handed in and gives test scores. Sometimes these teachers don't update this for a month and a parent finds out way after the fact that there child is failing or not ghanding in assignments timely, My nephew almost stayed back twice because of this. I urged teachers to tell me if he was slipping and none of them emailed me or his father and they had both emails and phone numbers. I understand at this stage in his education much of the blame should go to to him the student, but at the same time if the teacher is not telling us anything until a month later by punching that info in or sending the progress report half way through the term how do we help the teacher and the student. There is a huge disconnect right there. If you want my vote this is where you need to start.

ReplyThey really should do this with all sports, but this would help the football team tremendously. My only question would be could we keep the Thanksgiving game with Norwood?

I hope that the Fairbanks House is prominently featured in this. Not saying this because I'm a direct descendant. And BTW unlike that fake indian we have in the senate I can prove my lineage, but also because the house is so unique and almost 400 years old. and is what we're known for!!!! Do it right Fox!!!!!
