Massachusetts State Police will run extra safety checks on vehicles in the area on Friday, April 5 into Saturday, April 6.
If you spot a Massachusetts state trooper camped out by the side of the road somewhere in Norfolk County this weekend, he or she may be doing more than just watching for speedsters. Colonel Timothy P. Alben, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, announced a sobriety checkpoint will be established on an undisclosed public way in Norfolk County from Friday, April 5 into Saturday, April 6. Alben said the purpose of the checkpoint is to further educate motorists and strengthen public awareness to the need of both detecting drivers who are operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and taking them off the road. The checkpoint will be conducted over varied hours, vehicles will not be chosen arbitrarily and troopers will …

Anywhere from 3-5 inches of snow could fall in the area; a Winter Storm Watch is now in effect.
Another winter storm is headed this way. Unlike the blizzard of 2013, though, this incoming storm is expected to bring only upwards of 3-5 inches of the white stuff. This storm will comprise a mix of wind, rain wet snow, the accumulations of which will take place mostly along and outside I-95 Thursday, according to WHDH. Moreover, it will take some time to reach the predicted snow accumulation, WHDH Meteorologist Jeremy Reiner wrote in his blog Wednesday: Tomorrow and into early Friday morning will be the brunt of the storm but I have to tell you---it won't behave like a classic winter storm where we get slammed with snow for 6-8 hours then we're done. It will be a slow, drawn out storm where it snows lightly (sometimes steadily) for …

Large hail and downpours may accompany storms the next few days.
A stretch of warm and hazy weather conditions will lead to the possibility of showers and thunderstorms over the next few days, the National Weather Service is predicting. Earlier today the NWS issued a flood advisory for many communities, including Sudbury, after strong thunderstorms barreled through the Metrowest, dropping heavy rain on the region. Isolated storms could build again later today, with the potential for strong wind, hail and localized flash flooding. The chance for strong storms will return on Thursday, with hail possible from the morning through the early afternoon hours. On Friday and Saturday, any storms that develop could turn severe, with damaging wind, large hail and downpours. If you see severe weather, and it's safe…

Catch up on all of the week's news in Dedham.
This week had a couple of twists. The Board of Selectmen changed course on left-hand turns at the intersection of High Street and Washington Street for the Dedham Square Improvement Project. The board once favored banning the turns and evaluating traffic, but now the board will vote Thursday whether to keep the turns following construction, or to maintain the ban. In another twist, the Norfolk County district attorney's office changed their minds and will agree to a defense motion to sever the trials of Paul Moccia, of Dedham, and Daniel Bradley, of Westwood. The two men face first-degree murder charges in connection with a 2009 homicide of a Framingham man. The Dedham Police Department stayed busy last weekend and all week with a three-…
