"Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn." -Elizabeth Lawrence
Now that the change of season has been made official, and fall is upon us, clothing choices must change as well. Gone are the days of shorts, and our beloved flip flops. Frugal Family has to break out the sweaters, khakis, and clogs. Inevitably, some members of FF have outgrown their duds (hopefully not MOM!) and are in need of new pants! In our search this week, we have come across some great local deals to replenish what our wardrobes lack. Additionally, who doesn't get overloaded with kids birthday party invitiations once school starts? FF loves the time saving of free gift wrapping at a little Dedham Square gem! As always, check with merchants for specifics, and feel free to share any great deals you may come across in town!

"The rule on tailgating here: there are no rules, so plop your canopy down, set up your lawn chairs, fire up the grill and party." -Author Unknown.
Fall is in the air and football season is in full swing. Whether we are talking Patriots or Pop Warner, tailgating is a sign of the season. Frugal Family has spent the past week searching for deals on all the must-haves of tailgating. From chicken wings to chili, check out this weeks' deals, and as always, feel free to share information about any bargains you may come across.

"Did you ever stop to taste a carrot? Not just eat it, but taste it? You can't taste the beauty and energy of the earth in a Twinkie." -Astrid Alauda.
Back to school means doing our best to send healthy snacks and lunches with our students. This week Frugal Family scoured the local supermarkets in search of deals on healthy eats. Check with merchants for specifics.

"Everything that has a beginning has an ending. Make peace with that and all will be well." -Buddha
Frugal Family loves fall! That being said, the return to hectic schedules, multi-tasking, rushing around, trying to fit everything into seemingly shorter days, can be a little overwhelming and depressing. FF tries to look at this time of year as the chance to begin anew. Students should grasp the same attitude, and begin the new school year with excitement and enthusiasm! Moms and Dads should head to Salon Capri at Legacy Place for some great deals on well deserved pampering! As always, check with merchants for specifics, and email or comment with deals you come across locally.

"I hope you still feel small when you stand by the ocean, whenever one door closes, I hope one opens... and when you get the chance to sit it out or dance... I hope you dance." -LeeAnn Womack
Frugal Family ventured outside of Dedham for one of this week's deals, only because it is worth it, and comes with a Dedham connection. Hazel Boone Dance Studio, located in Canton, but owned by Dedham resident Holly Costa, is offering a fantastic special. With students returning to school very soon, maybe mom and dad will have a little time to dance? Worth looking into! As always, check with merchants for specifics, and feel free to email with any deals you come across!

"Don't be afraid to go out on a limb... it's where all the fruit is." -Shirley MacLaine.
One of the most wonderful things about this time of summer is the glorious fruit, available in abundance, and fairly priced as well. Keeping everyone eating healthy is a little easier in August! Frugal Family is not loyal to one supermarket, and likes to make the rounds, in search of the best each merchant has to offer. Locally, we are fortunate to also have a farmers market, held each Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m., rain or shine, right in Dedham Square. Each week is an exciting adventure, the thrill of the hunt, not knowing ahead of time what will be brought home in our reusable shopping bag is half the fun! Remember, as always to check with merchants for specifics, and send along an email with deals you may come across in your travels! …

"The sum of the whole is this: walk and be happy; walk and be healthy. The best way to lengthen out our days is to walk steadily and with a purpose." -Charles Dickens
This week's Frugal Family finds have to do with feet. Walking, strolling, running, hopping, whichever is your preference, we all need adequate footwear. With the opening of school fast approaching, students among us need a shiny new pair of sneakers or shoes to get the year off on the right foot. Yes, sadly, it is almost time to put those much-loved and daily worn flip-flops away. Then hop to The Blue Bunny for a new school book and for a storytime. As with all FF deals, check with merchants for specifics, and feel free to leave a comment, or email with bargains you come across, while walking, running, or hopping across Dedham.

Summer afternoon to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language." -Henry James
A perfect late summer afternoon, perhaps after a trip to the beach or the pool, might just include some serious back to school shopping. We are fortunate to have Legacy Place in our own backyard. Legacy is, indeed, a "one-stop-shopping," dining and entertainment destination. At this point in the summer, thoughts turn to new outfits, backpacks, accessories and everything else needed to start a new schoolyear off in style. This weeks deals are all related to getting the students back to class (soon enough!) As always, check with merchants for deal specifics and limitations.

"Amazing friends; summer nights; chocolate ice cream; water fights; Half the summer is gone already, so lets spend the rest of it; slow and steady." - Author Unknown.
This week Frugal Family searched locally to come up with deals on family fun, fruit and coffee or donuts! Summer is slipping away, so now is the time to head out for some local fun, recreation and treats. There is no need to venture far from Dedham. A short drive up Route 1 for indoor mini-golf on a hot summer day sounds like fun to me. As always, check with merchants for details, and please share any deals you come across.

"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." - Robert Brault.
At about the halfway point of this season, the reality sets in - summer reading projects need to be completed, and the clock starts ticking. The excitement of vacation has wained, and it is time to start planning ahead. Not that Frugal Family wants to wish the time away, but after six weeks of trying to keep everyone fed, happy and entertained, the thought of Labor Day (and school!) is pretty appealing. With five students returning to school, there are numerous books, (free reads and required readings) piled on the coffee table in the family room. Several orders from Amazon.com, and still more books needed! Fortunately (albeit, sadly) one of this weeks' sales pertains to reading materials! August means reading, but there has to be time …
