Girl's soccer nets three straight to overcome early deficit.
The Dedham High School girl's soccer team moved one game closer toward a home playoff game with a 3-1 win against a dangerous Walpole team. Walpole jumped on the board first, but Dedham netted a pair of goals before half and added a third in the second half to seal the win. On senior night at Dedham High School, Jenna Savi, the school's all-time soccer scorer, kicked home all three goals with assists from Emily Hill and Libby Masalsky. The Marauders improve to 14-3-2 overall and 10-3-2 in conference. Walpole drops to 11-4-1 and 9-4-1 in the Bay State. Dedham will close out its regular season Thursday against 1-13 Milton. Goalie Jamie Carty made 15 saves in net for the Marauders.
Facing rival Norwood, the Dedham High School field hockey team lost 3-1 on Monday to fall to 9-6-1 on the season. Sam Girard scored the Marauders lone goal, and sophomore Colleen Downing notched an assist on the play. Goalie Jamie Carty played very well in net, coach Erin MacDonald said, as she made 15 saves on 20 shots. The Marauders will host Walpole Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. at DHS, and will host Milton at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday at DHS. MacDonald also announced the team raised about $2,000 for breast cancer research. Dedham teamed with Newton North earlier this month for a fund-raiser.

Dedham senior Jenna Savi tallied five points Tuesday as she eclipsed Patrice Vettori's record.
Dedham High School senior Jenna Savi broke the school's soccer scoring record - boy's or girl's - Tuesday afternoon as she registered four goals and an assist in a 5-1 win against Brookline. The five-point game comes on the heels of a four-point performance Saturday against Norwood giving Savi 125 points for her career - three more than 2010 graduate Patrice Vettori, coach Don Savi said. The Marauders jumped on Brookline early, going up 4-1 20 minutes into the game. Senior Sarah Warjas scored Dedham's other goal against Brookline. On Saturday, Dedham played their first game on the turf field at DHS and beat rival Norwood 5-0. Emily Hill and Kelly Quinn added goals for the Marauders, who scored all five goals in the first 25 minutes of the …

Newton North used an early goal to beat Dedham 1-0 at Fairbanks Park on Wednesday.
The Dedham High School girl's soccer coaching staff entered Wednesday's affair with Newton North knowing the Tigers' passing game has led them to near the top of the Bay State League. Nine minutes into the contest, the Marauders had a first-hand look as Newton North (9-1-2, 8-1-2) executed a near-perfect give-and-go down the left sideline that set-up a goal by Holly Szafran, the team's leading scorer. Szafran one-timed the ball into the upper left corner with an assist from Shannon Fitzgerald. Dedham (10-3-2, 6-3-2) outshot the Tigers, but couldn't get anything past goalie Maddie Bledsoe. The Marauders will play rival Norwood Saturday evening at Dedham High School's new turf field.

The Dedham field hockey team will hold a breast cancer research fundraiser on Wednesday to open up the new turf field at DHS.
Update: The field hockey game Wednesday between Dedham and Newton North has been moved to 6:45 p.m. to be played at Dedham High School - the first game to be played under the lights on the new turf field. The Dedham High School field hockey team improved to 6-4-1 with a 4-0 win Monday against Ursuline Academy. Junior Kerrianne Downing notched a pair of assists in the win - one on a goal by Amanda Celata and on another by captain Laura Tavalone. Celata also picked up an assist on a goal by Colleen Downing. Sam Girard, called up from the junior varsity squad last week, also scored for the Marauders. "[Girard] gives us a lot of energy," coach Erin MacDonald said. The Dedham girl's soccer team tied 1-1 Braintree Tuesday afternoon.
It didn't downpour for long Tuesday afternoon, but when it did the Dedham High School Marauders quickly saw the disadvantage of playing on grass. At the 30-minute mark Braintree scored the game's first goal as Dedham keeper Ellen Masalsky slipped on a mud patch in front of the goal. "The field conditions were tough for both teams," Dedham coach Don Savi said following the match. "Unfortunately it rained after the match started. At that point you obviously want to finish the game. You don't want to have an official game at half." The Wamps lead didn't last long as a minute later, Dedham sophomore Emily Pike scored the game-tying goal for the Marauders. Dedham (9-1-2) was without senior captain Sarah Warjas, who will return for Thursday's …

The Marauders tied Milton 1-1 on Thursday, and the boy's soccer team lost 4-1.
The Dedham High School varsity field hockey team tied Milton 1-1 Wednesday to move to 3-4-1 this season. The Wildcats entered halftime with a 1-0 lead off a corner, but Dedham's Kerrianne Downing knotted the game in the second half off a pass by sophomore Colleen Downing. Marauder midfielder Tara Celata held the team together, coach Erin MacDonald said. Dedham will play Brookline on Monday. Girl's Soccer Ups Record The Dedham girl's soccer team defeated Milton 2-1 Wednesday to improve to 7-1-1 on the season. Dedham rode a goal by Kayla Sharpe for most of the match until Milton converted on a penalty kick with 19 minutes left. Junior Emily Hill broke the tie with less than two minutes remaining to give Dedham the 2-1 victory. Dedham Boy's …

Senior Jena Savi scored the lone Marauder goal with 14 minutes left in the match off a pass by junior Emily Hill. Junior Ellen Masalsky made 10 saves to earn the shutout. Dedham stays in control of the Herget Division with the win. Boy's Soccer Can't Hold Off Walpole Facing a high-powered Walpole squad, the Dedham boy's soccer team (1-7) stayed within a goal for the first 50 minutes of play, but then allowed three goals within 12- minutes and eventually lost 5-0. The MIAA released the playoff brackets for baseball and softball Tuesday afternoon.
Coach Kevin Quaranto's baseball team won't have to travel far for its opening round game Friday as Dedham High will take on neighboring Westwood at 4 p.m. Quaranto's team enters the MIAA South Division 3 playoffs with a 9-11 record. The Marauders finished 6-10 in the Bay State League, and 3-1 outside of it. Dedham enters Friday's contest with the Wolverines (11-9) with a 2-3 record in their previous five games. Their three losses have been by a combined four runs. Dedham is the 18th seed in a 19-team field. If they win on the road Friday, they'll play Saturday against second-seeded Abington. After facing 'powerhouse' Norwood, Dedham beats up on Brookline on Wednesday.
Dedham softball continued with their roller coaster ride through the rain and their Bay State League schedule Wednesday afternoon, with a lofty 26-1 win over Brookline. The game was played at Sugrue Field at Parks and Recreation due to the inclement weather and the Marauders responded by jumping out to an early 14-0 lead after one inning against a troubled Brookline team. One bright spot for Dedham (10-6) was freshman, and hockey sensation, Colleen Downing’s first inning home run that cleared the short left field porch for her first career home run. When asked whether this was as big as scoring a goal for the Marauder hockey team, Downing responded, "I think this is bigger than scoring a goal. You don’t get them as often." That might be …
