President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.
President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges …
Democrat Elizabeth Warren beat incumbent candidate Scott Brown in the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race.
Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren has beaten incumbent Republican candidate Scott Brown for a seat on the U.S. Senate, according to the Associated Press. Warren is won by a margin of eight percentage points, 54 percent to 46 percent, making her the first female senator elected in Massachusetts. An estatic Warren addressed a crowd of hundreds of excited supporters at the Copley Fairmont Plaza hotel in Boston on Tuesday night. "We did what everyone thought was impossible," she said. "We taught a scrappy, first-time candidate how to win." "You took on the powerful Wall Street banks and let them know that you want a Senator out there fighting for the middle class all of the time," she said. "And despite the odds, you elected the first …

The exact path remains a mystery, but forecast models indicate Hurricane Sandy won't just swing out to sea as she heads north towards New England.
Is your Halloween costume waterproof? "There is a consensus forming in weather forecast models that hurricane Sandy is unlikely to go out to sea," according to The Washington Post. It gets worse. The Washington Post goes on to report that Sandy will more likely merge with a cold front and transition into a "powerhouse, possibly historic" storm that forecasters expect to make landfall anywhere from the Mid-Atlantic states to northern New England or Canada. Oy. Chris Lambert on the WHDH weather blog reports that it will still be a few days until forecasters can say where Sandy -- or her "hybrid" remnants -- will make landfall, but the pieces of the puzzle are falling into place that would bring a powerful storm to the the Boston area on …

The questions covered topics that included energy costs, unemployment, immigration, tax codes and more. Wednesday morning, Patch will have flash survey results from Massachusetts political activists and leaders, both Republican and Democratic. But right now, what about you: what do you think? A look at the government story that dominated conversation in 2011.
It was certainly a busy 2011 inside Town Hall. In many respects, it was the "Year of the Neighbor." AliMed neighbors rallied against a cell phone tower, many were uneasy about plans for night construction during the Dedham Square Improvement Project - which led to a 50/50 split, and neighbors have cried out agaisnt the planned closure of the East Dedham post office. A look at some of our most popular videos from 2011.
A lot of what we do at Dedham Patch centers on video. Sometimes storytelling is best told by those who are the story - instead of our writers constructing a sentence. Video can show emotion like words can't - and sometimes can get a point across much easier and quicker than a few hundred words. We thoroughly enjoy putting together video packages, and we hope you enjoy watching them.
