Forecasters are warning the timing of an approaching snowstorm may make Monday afternoon and evening commute slippery.
There may be an inch of snow on the ground on Monday evening during the evening commute, according to forecasters at WHDH-TV. "Don't expect a ton of snow, but a general 1-3" falls late Monday afternoon, through the evening, producing slick roads, perhaps in time for the ride home from work," writes meterologist Chris Lambert in his blog. Even though not much snow will fall, Lambert said that the snow "will create slick spots on the roads Monday evening and Monday night." A snowy start to the week could herald more wintery conditions for Dedham, according to the National Weather Service. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 7 a.m. Tuesday, with a chance of snow predicted through 10 a.m. Slick roadways and poor visibility are possible, as well as blowing and drifting of snow due to the wind and the light nature of the precipitation. The Tuesday morning rush hour is expected to be impacted across New England. Tuesday night through Thursday are predicted to be clear, but with temperatures between 1 and 18 degrees. The National Weather Service is calling for cold temperatures this week. Here are some tips, courtesy of the National Weather Service, to keep in mind during this Arctic cold. 1. Minimize outdoor activities, especially for the elderly and very young. 2. Dress in several layers of loose-fitting clothing rather than a single layer of heavy clothing. 3. Wear a hat, mittens and waterproof boots. Cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs. 4. When using heating sources such as fireplaces, wood stoves and space heaters, be sure to ventilate them correctly. 5. Test smoke alarms and keep carbon monoxide detectors handy. 6. Bring pets out of the cold. Don't assume they can handle the cold. If you are not warm, they are not either.

Could residents actually have to shovel snow this week?
Hope you didn't put away that shovel just yet. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Watch for Wednesday afternoon through Thursday that calls for 3-5 inches of snow for Norfolk County, including Dedham. Temperatures right around freezing for most of the weather event will make a wintry mix of snow and sleet, however if temperatures dip a bit, the NWS states Dedham could receive even more snow. A mix of sleet and snow will make for slippery roadways, so drivers should use extreme caution on the roads - particularly if they didn't listen to Punxsutawney Phil and took off the snow tires. The heaviest precipitation is expected late Wednesday into early Thursday morning. Wind gusts could get as high as 20 mph, according to NWS. …
