POLL: When Do You Do Your Holiday Shopping?

Let us know why in the comment section below.

It's no question that retailers have taken over the holidays. First we had the rise-with-the-sun Black Friday events, which have now turned into never-go-to-bed days. Then, Internet retailers got in the swing and created Cyber Monday, for those who didn't want to get out of bed on Friday. Finally, last year American Express spearheaded Small Business Saturday to encourage shopping local and keeping retail profits in-town. But maybe you buck popularity and decide to wait until December 23 and rush to find someone to do the wrapping for you. Answer our poll below on when you complete your holiday shopping, and add what your holiday strategy is in the comment section.

POLL: Where Are You Shopping on Black Friday?

Vote in our polls, or let people know in the comment section.

Ah, the greatest shopping day of the year is already upon us. Whether you are an old pro that draws out a map of your route - and the deals - after the Thanksgiving feast; or a new age techie that just needs Mapquest to plot your gameplan; or you are just the fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants shopper - Black Friday is for you. Perhaps you're used to waking up at 3 a.m. to hit the stores by 5 a.m., but with plenty of stores open at midnight, maybe it's worth it to pull an all nighter. There is plenty of shopping to be done right here in Dedham, so where will you celebrate Black Friday? Vote in our poll below, or let people know in the comment section below.

Dedham Shoppers Ready for Sales Tax Holiday

Some are preparing lists, while rough economy will keep others at home.

With the Massachusetts sales tax holiday beginning this weekend, some residents and shoppers are preparing their lists. For others, a weak economy is going to keep them home despite the deals. With the NFL lockout over and preseason football currently underway, many said they will use the tax-free weekend to purchase televisions to cheer on their favorite teams. The last time John Flynn, of Dedham, purchased a set he invited a large gathering of friends over to watch the Patriots win the Super Bowl. When he upgrades to a model that is 10 years newer and 10 inches bigger, he hopes to be able recreate the magic. "We're going to try and do it again," Flynn said. "Who knows?  It might work." Peg Mannix, who recently moved back to the area …

Linger at Legacy for an Afternoon of Deals

Summer afternoon to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language." -Henry James

A perfect late summer afternoon, perhaps after a trip to the beach or the pool, might just include some serious back to school shopping. We are fortunate to have Legacy Place in our own backyard. Legacy is, indeed, a "one-stop-shopping," dining and entertainment destination.  At this point in the summer, thoughts turn to new outfits, backpacks, accessories and everything else needed to start a new schoolyear off in style. This weeks deals are all related to getting the students back to class (soon enough!) As always, check with merchants for deal specifics and limitations.

Dedham Sales on Simple Summer Pleasures

"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." - Robert Brault.

At about the halfway point of this season, the reality sets in - summer reading projects need to be completed, and the clock starts ticking. The excitement of vacation has wained, and it is time to start planning ahead. Not that Frugal Family wants to wish the time away, but after six weeks of trying to keep everyone fed, happy and entertained, the thought of Labor Day (and school!) is pretty appealing. With five students returning to school, there are numerous books, (free reads and required readings) piled on the coffee table in the family room. Several orders from Amazon.com, and still more books needed! Fortunately (albeit, sadly) one of this weeks' sales pertains to reading materials!  August means reading, but there has to be time …

Sales on Sunblock, Seafood, Backpacks and Boogie Boards

"There is plenty of Summer left, but not enough days to drink cheap wine." - Author Unknown

Frugal Family spends countless hours in search of deals, bargains, sales, and whatever else we choose to call more bang for our buck. Once in awhile, however, FF stumbles upon something that, no matter the cost, is a must-have treat! With August quickly approaching, the thought of back-to-school shopping is looming. Backpacks and uniforms are necessities in many households, scoop them up early and save yourself stress! The price of sunblock can really break the bank, so finding a bargain on a quality brand is a true FF favorite find. What kid doesn't love a boogie board of their own at the beach? What parent doesn't love one at a true discount price? After spending the majority of time the past couple of months on the sidelines of baseball…

Great Bargains to Let You Enjoy the Beach

"Don't grow up too fast, lest you forget how much you love the beach." - Michelle Held

After a less than perfect first half of 2011, beach weather is finally here. Many of us who think of ourselves as beach lovers (Frugal Family included!) will say it has been worth the wait. An 80-degree day, absent of humidity, reminds us why we live in New England.  FF has spent some quality time this past week in search of beach-worthy bargains. From packing the cooler, to staying safe in the sun, you don't have to venture far to gather all the makings of a fantastic family trip to the beach of your choice.  Aren't we all so lucky to have so many choices? Remember to check with the merchant for specifics, and feel free to share some of your own finds my emailing, or commenting below. Oh, and - Go Bruins!!!
