Community Police Academy Aims to Teach Dedham Residents About DPD The Dedham Community Police Academy ended their last tutorial with a bang Wednesday morning. Members of a Dedham Retired Men's Club got to see first hand some of the firearms training that Dedham officers go through using a simulation program that shows them different scenarios they may see through the course of duty. "It's like a big video game for cops," said Sgt. Frank MacMillan who ran Wednesday's session. Kings' Owners to Pay $424,000 in Back Wages and Liquidated Damages to 409 Underpaid Workers A group of Boston-area restaurants and their owners, Patrick Lyons and Edward Sparks, have come to an agreement to pay $424,000 to 409 employees for Fair Labor Standards Act violations. Out of the amount, $212,000 will be in back wages and "liquidated damages." Kings in Dedham is one of the restaurants listed. According to an investigation that was done by the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division, employees at Kings were not compensated for all work hours. Dedham Police Log: Larceny, Pedestrian Struck at Dedham Plaza and More According to police reports, there was a report of a past larceny at a supermarket on Providence Highway. The employees informed police that the suspect fled northbound on Providence Highway, but the merchandise was recovered. According to the loss prevention employee, the suspect was a black female who selected a large quantity of items, walked passed the registers and tried to exit the store without paying for the items. A loss prevention employee started to follow the suspect into the parking lot and told her that she needed to return to the store with the items.
