Dedham's Noble and Greenough Free Skate for Elementary Schools

Each year, for almost a decade now, the folks at the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, offer the children of our four elementary schools a “free skate” at their Bliss Omni Flood Arena. Their mission is to inspire leadership and to motivate their students to achieve their highest potential – both academically and personally.  In what Oakdale Elementary School Principal, Holli Armstrong calls “a very nice community gesture,” dozens of local boys and girls turn out to take advantage of …

Firefighters Battle Large Brush Fire at Noble and Greenough

No buildings were damaged during prolonged firefighting operations.

Dedham and Westwood Firefighters battled a large brush fire that consumed about two acres ajoining the Noble and Greenough School grounds on Jenny Lane. The fire broke out around 2 p.m. Saturday, just as another brush fire was being fought in the area of Joyce Lane. Firefighters were confronted with very dry conditions, as well as difficulties with water supply to attack the fire. Water had to be accessed from a hydrant on the Nobles campus. A feeder hose line was stretched from the campus, across an athletic field, into Dedham Engine 2 and then to a Brush Truck deep in the woods. At one time the fire threatened to spread to a school building, but firefighters were able to contain it.  No injuries were reported and firefighters remained …

9 Seniors From Dedham Graduate from Nobles

Nobles students received their diplomas at a ceremony Friday morning.

"Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?" Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" echoed through the Noble and Greenough School's auditorium as members of the senior class performed the 1970 hit on stage. The senior celebrated assembly for the last time Friday, but carried their enthusiasm and energy into the school's graduation ceremony.  School Life Council President Thomas Kelly kicked off the ceremony as he compared the seniors' high school experience to Huckleberry Finn's journey in Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." Kelly, a Dedham resident, encouraged his classmates to band together as they prepare to face new challenges. "We hope to prove ourselves as some of the best and brightest …
