Resurfacing of Providence Highway/VFW Parkway Corridor Starts Today, Lane Closures Expected

The project starts today and will involve overnight lane closures.

The Massacusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be repaving the Providence Highway/VFW Parkway corridor, through Dedham and Boston, starting Wednesday, May 8, according to a recent announcement. The project will be done overnight and will consist of lane closures for milling, adjusting manholes and drainage structures; followed by paving operations and pavement markings, according to the MassDOT.  The project is expected to be complete during the week of May 19, weather permitting. Contractors will be working during the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. There will also be "some off-peak daytime work to adjust drainage structures and manholes," according to the MassDOT.

MassDOT Secretary Davey Asks NVCC Members to Support Transportation Bill

Davey was at the British Beer Company on Route 1 in Walpole Tuesday morning at a breakfast hosted by the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce.

MassDOT secretary and CEO Richard Davey was in Walpole Tuesday morning for a breakfast with members of the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce.   A day after the House passed a $500 million transportation bill to help balance MassDOT's budget gap, Davey was asking those in attendance, at the British Beer Company on Route 1, to support a much larger bill - about $1.9 billion - that would help fund transportation and education in the state. “What I really want you all to understand…is that the current transportation system we have we cannot afford. State Police Increasing Enforcement on I-93/I-95, Randolph-Dedham

State Police are increasing enforcement of breakdown lane use where new fourth travel lane has opened.

The following was submitted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. MassDOT and the Massachusetts State Police are reminding drivers traveling along I-93 and I-95 (Rte. 128) that use of the breakdown lane on I-93/I-95 (Rte. 128) has been discontinued in the area where the new fourth travel lane has opened.  In late November, MassDOT opened a section of the new fourth travel lane along I-93 and I-95 (Rte. 128) between Route 24 in Randolph and a point just south of Rte. 109 near the Westwood-Dedham line.  The new lane is part of the ongoing project to eliminate an existing bottleneck between Rte. 24 and Rte. 9 in Wellesley by having four continuous travel lanes in each direction of interstate roadway from the junction of I-93 and …

Expect Traffic This Evening on I-95 Near Needham, Dedham

The State Department of Transportation will be sending their work crew to I-95 near the Needham-Dedham line at 7 p.m.

  According to the State Department of Transportation (MassDOT), at 7 p.m. crews will be arriving at the Needham-Dedham town line to work on splitting the traffic lanes. "The traffic split is necessary to reconstruct a portion of the bridges that carry I-95 South over the Charles River. The bridges on I-95 North and South are being reconstructed and widened to accommodate a fourth travel lane as part of the “Add-A-Lane” project," the MassDOT said in a statement. The Boston Globe is reporting that the work to split to lanes should last until noon on Saturday. MassDot Splitting Route 128 at Dedham

Part of the southbound travel lane will be split after Friday, MassDot says.

  Starting on Friday night, the Mass Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is splitting Route 128 to continue widening bridges across the Charles River.  Jan 18 will end with a traffic split formed along Route 128 southbound near the Great Plain Avenue intersection, according to a press release from MassDOT. Two lanes will shift to the left, two to the right, around areas where construction crews will be working. Traffic Pattern Changes on I-93/I-95 Commence Nov. 27

Construction to widen the I-93/I-95 (Rte. 128) between Randolph and Westwood will begin to come to a close as the new lane will begin opening.

The following information was submitted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation: Beginning at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, construction crews will begin to open the remaining portions of the newly constructed fourth travel lane on the section of interstate roadway between Randolph and Westwood. The project limits begin in Randolph on I-93 at the interchange with Rte. 24 (Exit 4). From there, the project extends west toward Canton Junction, where I-93 ends, and the roadway becomes I-95 (Rte.  128). Lastly, the project continues along I-95 (Rte. 128) to Rte. 109 (Exit 16) in Westwood. Deadham Becomes Dedham In Waltham

The MassDOT sign has been fixed.

Last week, Patch featured a photo of a sign near the Winter Street bridge in Waltham that incorrectly spelled Dedham wrong. It read "Deadham." Now, however, that has been fixed. State Department of Transportation Spokesman Richard Nangle told Patch a subcontractor made the spelling mistake, but it was fixed as soon as workers noticed it.
