Norfolk DA Program to Help Businesses Recover Bad Check Losses

Businesses can get back the full value of the bad check - no matter the dollar amount, the DA's office announced.

Norfolk County District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey this week launched a new way for Dedham businesses to deal with bad checks. “The existing ways of dealing with bounced checks has left a lot of merchants, tradesmen and small businesses frustrated and still out their money,” Morrissey said in a statement. “This kind of crime is an indirect theft from the honest customers who have to pay higher prices to cover the loss. We wanted to find a good way to deal with bad checks.” The program has five key components: Business owners and managers can visit www.norfolkda.com for additional information. “The objective is to make merchants whole and to give offenders some education on the consequences of passing bad checks. Visions for Vacancies in Dedham: Borders

The store closed last July, so what do you want to replace it?

Our new Visions for Vacancies feature begins this week, a spot where you can have your say and sound off on what a vacant business property should become before plans are drawn. Each week Dedham Patch will highlight a vacant building or structure in the Dedham community. Just a year after opening in Legacy Place, Borders announced it would shuttered the doors. After weeks of slashing prices on books, the big box book store finally closed, and left a 25,000 square foot space empty at Legacy. A Halloween shop moved in last fall for the season, but the former Borders is empty once again. What do you want to see replace Borders and become the newest store at Legacy Place? Leave a comment in the section below! Have a vacant store suggestion? …

'Peter Brady' Joins Kings in Benefit for Journey Forward

The event raised more than $49,000 for the Canton-based organization.

What do Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and Peter Brady have in common? Visitors to Kings Dedham at Legacy Place found out March 27, when Kings'bowling alley transformed into a Vegas Casino to benefit Journey Forward, a nonprofit organization based in Canton that works to better the lives of those with spinal cord injuries. The evening featured blackjack, craps, roulette, bowling, costumed staff and more in an event that was as spectacular as it was philanthropic.    Highlighting the event was special guest emcee Christopher Knight, who played the beloved Peter Brady on the iconic “Brady Bunch” and has received more recent fame on the reality series “My Fair Brady.” Mr. Knight chatted with the crowd, and expertly ran the silent and live auctions …
