Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer hits theaters nationwide Friday, but local fans received the opportunity to get an early look at the film Saturday as Dedham hosted Judy Moody Day. Fans were also treated to a book signing by Peter Reynolds - who has illustrated all nine Judy Moody books - and a play at the Fiddlehead Theatre.

Dedham Square grew "moody" Saturday. Judy Moody fans joined Peter Reynolds, illustrator of the popular children's book series, at a slew of events celebrating the big-screen premiere of Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. Judy Moody Day featured an advanced screening of the film at the Dedham Community Theatre, a book signing party, a parade and live performances of scenes from the Judy Moody series at the Fiddlehead Theatre. The Dedham Board of Selectmen declared Saturday as Judy Moody Day during its May 19 meeting. Reynolds recognizes the event encourages creativity and learning for children.
