Letter to the Editor: Halloween Party in the Manor

The Manor Block Party Committee thanks supporters for a successful event.

The weather didn’t cooperate this year for our Saturday Halloween Block Party, so we moved it to Sunday, October 30th. DJ Fanci Nancy blasted the tunes and McDonald Sq. quickly filled up with children in ghoulish attire. We had normal fall weather and it is nice to see so many familiar faces and all the new and growing families in the neighborhood. Our Manor Block Party is a great social event that Manor parents and children look forward to yearly and a number of former Dedham residents always come back to visit with their families and friends. The Halloween Block Party had a number of activities for children of all ages to participate in. DJ- Fancy Nancy had them hula hooping and dancing in the streets, the moonwalk kept the kids hopping …

Tales of a Tireless Mom

Squirrel Eats Costume, Commercialism Wins Again on Halloween

When costumes become more trick than treat, remember that smiles and happy kids are the most important thing.

They declared that we should go to iParty and just pick something out; Georgia was leaning towards a clown and Ben was hoping to be something gory. We used our imagination and made them! Don’t you want to do that this year?” Although neither was convinced, I was determined to forego the expensive (but cheap looking) getups and teach them how to each make a fabulous costume and lasting memory. Easier said than…

Send Us Your Halloween Snow Storm Photos!

Submit your best October snow storm below or send to timothyr@patch.com.

What could be a better scare for Halloween than to wake up and find the ground covered in snow . . . in October? Well that's what residents in Dedham and elsewhere saw Sunday morning, after a harsh winter storm slammed the state Saturday night, prompting Gov. Deval Patrick to declare a state of emergency.  The storm brought heavy rain, ice, snow and strong winds that caused trees and wires to come down in Dedham and resulted in thousands of customers without power as of Sunday morning. But one thing's for sure - despite the power outages and damage, a snow-covered ground in mid-autumn is truly a sight to see. As such we're asking residents in Dedham to submit their best October snow storm photos. Got some great storm and snow pictures? …

Heavenly Halloween Pumpkin Treat

This fall pumpkin treat with buttery cream cheese frosting is sure to please.

I couldn’t let Halloween come and go and not squeeze in a pumpkin recipe. This week, I baked a sweet pumpkin recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation in my family. You’re going to love these little gems! Have the recipe handy because if you make them and share them, someone is sure to ask you for the recipe! These tasty treats are fantastic for a crowd. They make four dozen bars. What else is to love? Not only do the taste great and you can serve them as a snack or even for a fast before school/work breakfast.  So, if you’re heading to a Halloween party, bring them! Why not treat your co-workers to a homemade fall treat?  You can add nuts on top of the buttery vanilla cream cheese frosting and you can add raisins to …
