Democratic candidates for Governor's Council will head to the Morse Institute Library on Wednesday.
The Morse Institute Library and the Natick Democratic Town Committee will host a debate on Wednesday between Democratic candidates for the Governor's Council in the second district. The candidates – Brian Clinton, Robert Jubinville, Patrick McCabe, and Bart Timilty – will debate at a 7 p.m. event that is open to all. The eight-person Governor's Council is the oldest elected body in Massachusetts, predating its statehood. Clinton, is Boston City Councilor Rob Consalvo's longtime chief of staff, and wants to replace the late Kelly Timilty.
Brian Clinton says that if elected as the Governor's Councilor for District 2 of Massachusetts, he will resign his position as the chief of staff for Boston City Councilor Rob Consalvo. The Governor's Council consists of eight districts and eight councilors, who make $26,025 a year. The Second Councillor District (double 'l' on the Commonwealth's website) represents 39 cities and towns throughout five counties, including Dedham. "Should I earn this, I would leave Councilor Consalvo’s office after the New Year. I know what the public thinks, and you never want a perception that you are double-dipping. Roslindale resident represented Dedham, others in District 2 on the council for 18 years.
Governor's Councilor Kelly Timilty passed away Tuesday. She was 49. Timilty served under five governors as an elected official for District 2. She was a Roslindale resident. Through the years Timilty worked with countless elected officials and residents, some of who have offered comments on her passing: “Councilor Timilty was not only a dedicated and outstanding public servant, but also a good friend, said state Senator Mike Rush, D-West Roxbury. “Her passing at such a young age is a terrible loss to her husband Jim, the Timilty family and the people of our community.
