Golden Corn Quiche: Dinner Perfection in a Pie Crust

Serve with a salad for an easy weeknight meal!

This time of year we go on a quiche kick. For Easter brunch, I’ve been brining the quiches for the past few years. I guess you could say it’s a new tradition. I brought last year’s favorite, the hash brown quiche, but I also try to find a new quiche recipe to try. When I saw this golden corn quiche recipe, I knew I had to try it. I wasn’t sure how the combo of corn and eggs was going to be. Well, good news, we loved it! This is a great vegetarian dish, too. I couldn’t help but imagine how magnificent this recipe will be in the summer when the Dedham Farmers Market is going strong with bushels of fresh corn for sale! As I’ve said before, this time of year gets really busy for a lot of us. We’re driving from field to field with practices …

Dedham Square Construction Countdown Begins

The 14-month project is no more than two weeks away from beginning, contractors say.

The $6 million-plus Dedham Square Improvement Project will begin in less than two weeks with reconstruction of the Keystone parking lot, project managers said Monday evening. Nearly 25 Square business owners and residents gathered at a meeting with project managers and town officials to hear the final schedule for the project and to learn how they can keep updated on the progress. It was one of two meetings the town held on Monday. Work will begin a bit delayed, as the contractor, Fed. Corp., awaited results of final testing. Work is slated to begin in the next 10 to 14 days, said Al Morteo, of Fed. Corp. According to the project's schedule, work was supposed to begin this week. Construction crews will begin work in the back half of the …

'Pirates' to Serve Lemonade for Veterans

The Linari boys will serve up lemonade once again this year.

Jack and Eric Linari will continue their successful lemonade stand once again this summer as they raise money for veterans with the Home Base program. The boys, who have sold lemonade for the past four years at the Dedham Farmers Market, decided this week on their cause. Jack's and Eric's grandfathers both served for the military, and their service made an impression on the boys. "This year [...] we're all about helping veterans and their families," the boys wrote on the stand's Facebook page.

Frugal Family

Fruitful Deals on the Seasons' Best

"Don't be afraid to go out on a limb... it's where all the fruit is." -Shirley MacLaine.

One of the most wonderful things about this time of summer is the glorious fruit, available in abundance, and fairly priced as well. Keeping everyone eating healthy is a little easier in August! Frugal Family is not loyal to one supermarket, and likes to make the rounds, in search of the best each merchant has to offer. Locally, we are fortunate to also have a farmers market, held each Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m., rain or shine, right in Dedham Square. Each week is an exciting adventure, the thrill of the hunt, not knowing ahead of time what will be brought home in our reusable shopping bag is half the fun! Remember, as always to check with merchants for specifics, and send along an email with deals you may come across in your travels! …

Farmers Market Fresh Salad to Enjoy

After hitting up the expansive Dedham Farmers Market, I whipped up a delicious fresh salad.

The Dedham Farmers Market is open! I look forward to Wednesdays and try to get there as often as I can. Fresh, local food from neighboring farms and stores. Is there better food shopping? This year, they’ve expanded (again) and there are even more vendors to visit and I can’t wait to test them out and shop for some new recipes. I had a caprese salad in mind when I visited this week and the market did not disappoint. First, I headed over to Freitas Farms and grabbed two beautiful red tomatoes. Then I visited Fior D’Italia, who makes wonderful homemade pastas, but this time I grabbed the fresh mozzarella. I’m pretty picky about fresh mozzarella. Some can have a funny taste. This one was fantastic and tasted great. Next off to Ferrara …

This has to be one of my favorite summer salads, especially as the tomatoes move from greenhouse to field and you can really taste the sunshine!   more ›
