Dedham Plans to Use $6M on Roads Through 2015

The three-year plan was presented Thursday evening to the Board of Selectmen.

Town officials laid out plans for the next three years of road improvements to Dedham streets that will invest about $6 million through fiscal year 2015. The Board of Selectmen approved the plan Thursday. "It has a pretty good spread throughout the town," said Jason Mammone, Dedham's resident engineer. "It includes a little reclamation, preventive maintenance, and routine maintenance." The road management plan reflects how the town would spend about $1.5 million in local funding and $500,000 in state funding. If either of those funding sources are changed, the management plan will change. For six years, town officials have used a computer program to generate roads due for maintenance based on balance of work and need, Mammone said. Under …

We live in a section of town near the Westwood border, and the roads here have not been done in over 30 yrs. Its pathetic. Aprently one of the neighbors complained so much they came up and fixed about a 75 foot section of the road. I just don't get it. I know our neighborhood does not have thru trafic as it is a deadend, but 30 yrs. Neighbors have called the DPW and were told "get in line". Nice …   more ›

Dedham's Engineer Hired Away to Easton

David Field will serve as director of Public Works in Easton.

Easton officials announced Friday that they hired Dedham town engineer David Field as their next director of Public Works. "I have mixed emotions about the situation," said Dedham Town Administrator William Keegan. "He's been such a great asset to us and I'm sorry to see him go." The Town of Dedham hired Field in 2005 as the town's first full-time engineer, and he has helped spearhead many projects in his 6-plus years, but none bigger than the $6.1 million Dedham Square Improvement Project set to begin in the spring. Keegan said that work will go on as planned, with the department's staff and an engineering consultant stepping in to help coordinate the beginning of the project. The town will post the open position on Tuesday, and hire …

Keegan: Parks-DPW Merger Plan on Hold

Dedham will form a sub-committee to study the effects of a merger of the Parks Department and the Department of Public Works.

Town Administrator William Keegan agreed Thursday to put on hold a Town Meeting article to move the Parks Department to the Department of Public Works. Keegan reached an agreement with the Parks and Recreation Commission to form a sub-committee to study the proposed merger. Keegan put forth a Town Meeting article for May’s meeting to make the move, but said Thursday that he would move to rescind that article and file a substitute motion to receive support for a seven-member sub-committee. “There are concerns out there that still need to be addressed,” Keegan said. “It puts us in a position to understand all of those issues and educate Town Meeting in a way that they would have a better understanding as to what this would mean.” Parks and …
