Here is an update on what is happening with the project since it shut down for the winter.
Since March 18, NSTAR Gas has been working on a gas main replacement project in Dedham Square. But this is not a part of the Dedham Square Improvement Project. NSTAR has agreed to work with FED Corp. and pay for all of the sidewalk restoration and overlaying the roadway. According to NSTAR gas, they are hoping to complete their work within 10 weeks. NSTAR will be working during the day, from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. "It is necessary to perform this work during the day due to the sensitivity and safety aspects of working on gas utilities," Dedham Square contractors said. "A majority of the gas mains are located near the edge of the roadway and temporary parking restrictions within NSTAR’s work area should be anticipated." According to the Dedham …

Here's this week's Dedham Square Project update.
According to the contractors, the project will begin its winter shutdown. The contractors may continue paving the remainder of the Keystone Lot within the next week or so. They will also be allowed to install the parking lot's lights as soon as they are delivered in December. The contractors are expected to resume construction around Mar. 15, 2013.

Here's this week's update on the Dedham Square Project.
According to Contractors, there are a few projects that will continue this week in Dedham Square. The first project will consist of the reconstruction of the sidewalk on the easterly side of Washington Street, from High Street to Harris Street. The sidewalk will be closed for up to three weeks and 12 on-street parking spaces will be unavailable. The next project deals with the reconstruction of the sidewalk on the southerly side of High Street, from Eastern Avenue to the Route 1 overpass. This area will be closed for up to two weeks and 10 on-street parking spaces will be unavailable. The contractors will also be adding more trees, along with tree frames for the sidewalks. However, the sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians while …

Residents and officials have both raised views on the project in the past week. But what do you think?
The Dedham Square Improvement Project has received quite a bit of attention in the last week. In a letter to the editor on Aug. 16, Dan O'Neil wrote that he didn't see the project as an improvement to get people to come to the square, but rather as a deterrent." "I have been watching this Dedham Square project unfold and as I see some of the changes, I have to beg the question . . . did any intelligent, rational thought even go into this plan?" O'Neil asked in the letter. "I want to see the shops get more business. We’re all for small business, but does anyone really think bigger sidewalks in a square that already has traffic pitfalls and back ups is the way to go?" O'Neil's letter received 24 comments as of Wednesday afternoon this week…

While everyone respects the ability of anyone to freely express their sentiments about something that they dislike, it is also equally important to respond to comments that are factually incorrect and do not reflect the accurate accounting of what has or is taking place. I am writing in response to the letter to the editor that has been listed in several media sources during the week Aug. 12-18. The letter was from Dan O'Neil and was entitled "Did Any Intelligent Rational Thought Go Into Plan for Dedham Square?" The Dedham Square Improvement Project has been in the development stage for the better part of five years and during that time there has been no less than 35 public hearings on this topic. This number of meetings is in addition to …

Every week we keep you up to date on what's happening with the Dedham Square Project.
This week the focus will be on pouring the new concrete sidewalks on High Street, Washington Street, and Eastern Ave. The sidewalks will be temporarily closed for one week, however, temporary access ways will be provided for all businesses and residential property. The sidewalks on the easterly side of Washington Street (from the CVS) to High Street will be closed for up to two weeks. And pedestrians can expect ten parking spots to be closed while work is being done in that area. On Thursday, August 16, the contractor plans to work from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. During that time they will install underground electrical conduits for the street and traffic lights for two intersections. They will work on High Street and Washington, and High …

Granite curbing installation at Keystone Parking Lot, update to sidewalk reconstruction.
The front section of the Keystone Parking Lot will be closed on Tuesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 5 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the installation of granite curbing for parking lot islands and pouring concrete for islands. Any vehicle not moved from this location will be towed at the owner's expense. Change to Original Plan - Sidewalks. The original plan based on the Project Update was to reconstruct the Washington Street sidewalk from Bryant Street to School Street following completion of pouring the sidewalk on Eastern Avenue adjacent to the parking lot. This has been changed and the contractor will be reconstructing the sidewalk on the westerly side of Eastern Avenue from Bryant Street to just south of the pedestrian bump out near …

Are the improvements already made by FED Corp going to be ripped up by the NSTAR gas company? When NSTAR says-it has agreed to work with FED Corp. and pay for all of the sidewalk restoration and overlaying the roadway, what does this mean? Will the road be completely re-paved or just patched? Will NSTAR electric be here next spring ripping up the roads again? The Town is investing $6 million into…   more ›
