Keegan's $85M Plan Makes Few Moves, Boosts Library

The town administrator presented a $95 million budget to the Board of Selectmen Thursday evening.

  Town Administrator William Keegan unveiled Thursday evening his budget proposal for the fiscal year 2013 that amounts to more than $95 million. The operating budget for the town would eclipse $85 million under Keegan’s plan. "Overall it is a balanced budget," Keegan said. "This is really a community on the move. There are a lot of exciting opportunities." The town continues to work on sources to save money, including its ESCO project with Siemens to save on energy costs and health care reform with town employees. Commercial and residential property taxes represent 80 percent of the revenues the town as state aid will remain flat for the next fiscal year. In the last 5 years my property taxes have increased almost 30% while my home value has plummeted by more than that figure. Now your telling me I'm going to have a higher tax burden next year. According to the article your adding more public sector jobs, yet in the same breath your "doing everything we can to minimize our expenditures". Where are the cuts? Library Director Leaves, Dedham Author Celebrated Globally

Looking back at this week's top stories.

Patricia Lambert has left her post as director of the Dedham Public Library after seven years of service. She left abruptly from a trustees meeting on Monday. Staff member Lisa Ingemi has been elevated to the position of acting director until the board can find a permanent director. At a Sustainability Committee meeting Monday, members discussed their support to apply for grant to study constructing a pedestrian rail trail in Dedham. What do you think of the idea? Over the weekend, Dedham celebrated its 375th anniversary in grand style at the Endicott Estate. The event brought well over 6,000 people out to enjoy a day of dancing, food and games.
