Dedham Police are warning residents about a driveway paving scam that has cost victims thousands of dollars.
Dedham Police are warning residents that if a man knocks on your door and says he has extra asphalt and is willing to pave your driveway at a discounted price. His high pressure approach may cause confusion. And it's important to know that you are not getting a deal, you are being scammed. "If you agree, here is what likely happens. Men and equipment suddenly appear and begin “working” on your driveway. At some point, the conman claims a mistake was made and you owe thousands more than the original price," police said. "He threatens that if you refuse to pay, the “work” will cease. You may be escorted to the bank, to withdraw money. Monday, June 3 (3:08 p.m.) According to police reports, a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle at the Dedham Mall. The victim told police that she was leaving DSW and started to cross the street and then was struck by the vehicle. The driver told Dedham Police that she was making a turn into a row of parking spots when she bumped the pedestrian. The pedestrian was evaluated by Fallon EMS and she declined transportation to a hospital. Tuesday, June 4 (11:15 a.m.) A man walked into the police station to report fraudulant charges on his credit card. A report was filed. The Dedham Police will use the grant for additional enforcement efforts which will help protect our pedestrians and cyclists from injuries and fatalities.

In an effort to make Dedham a safer place for our pedestrians and bicyclists, the Dedham Police Department will use a $3,000 grant provided by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security(EOPSS). The funding is from $192,000 provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) specifically to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety. Dedham is one of 48 police departments to receive this grant. From 2006 to 2011, 1544 pedestrians were injured in crashes and of those 375 sustained fatal injuries, according to the Massachusetts Traffic Records Analysis Center (MassTRAC). Monday, May 27 (6:47 p.m.) A man reported to Dedham Police that his iPhone was stolen while he was in theater 7 at Showcase Cinemas. A report was filed. (7:41 p.m.) A woman reported to police that she believed that her iPhone was stolen. According to reports, she said that she left it behind while sitting on a bench at TJ Maxx but when she went back- it was gone. TJ Maxx found surveillance footage showing the woman leaving the phone behind, and then a 5'10 black male wearing a blue shirt sat down on top of the iPhone, maneuvers the phone into his pocket and then walks out of the store. With Prom season approaching the Dedham Police Department would like to take the opportunity to remind parents of the Social Hosting laws in Massachusetts. The Law in Massachusetts is clear. Monday, May 13 (11:09 p.m.) According to police reports, a couple walked into a store in Legacy Place and stole four pairs of jeans values at $200 each. A search of the area met with negative results. Tuesday, May 14 (10:13 a.m.) A man came into the station to report to Dedham Police that there was a fraudulent charge on his credit card. A report was filed. (2:23 p.m.) There was a report of a shoplifter at Legacy Place. According to reports, the suspect was concealing clothing down his pants. When the suspect tried to walk out, it was obvious to the employees that he had items stuffed down his pants. According to police, the suspect stole $253.99 worth of merchandise. Having had the need to use the ambulance service quite a few times for my elderly mother, I appreciate the questions that the dispatcher asks. The questions are for the benefit of the caller because the dispatcher is better able to give advice while waiting for the ambulance.
