Danielle Vlahos Wants to Bring Some Fresh Air to Dedham Parks and Recreation

Danielle Vlahos is the manager and fitness trainer for Solid Body Fitness, and is running for a seat on the Dedham's Parks and Recreation Commission.

  For Danielle Vlahos, making the decision to run for a seat on the Dedham Parks and Recreation Committee was an easy one. She already loved the programs that the department had to offer. In fact, her 9-year-old son Cole is very active in the programs.  But she wants to see more programs that can cater to kids that are not into team sports. While at the same time meeting the needs of parents. "I want to observe and I want to listen," she said. "I know from talking to other parents that we want more variation. I would love to [organize] a running clinic or running club for kids." Another goal of Vlahos is to create more opportunities for parents and children to become active together. Ms. Vlahos, In all due respect you picked the wrong year to run for this. Sal Ledda is the backbone for all the special needs programs in this town. He started challenger soccer 5 years ago was the inspiration for me to get the ball rolling on the challenger basketball program and it is because of him and the other comission members that the pathfinders program exhists. Dogs Go Wild: Parks and Rec Drafting Dog Park Plans

A Dedham Parks and Recreation commissioner suggested seven possible sites for the park.

Dedham dogs might just get their way. Dedham Parks and Recreation Commission member Chuck Dello Iacono presented a list of seven possible sites in Dedham that could potentially be used as a dog park: Dello Iacono said to the commission, “This is more like an inventory,” adding that he is not recommending any one property, but intends to create a plan for each property before reporting back to the board.  He said he walked each of the properties and, with the exception of Condon Park that he described as having many inclines and having a wooded area, all would make a good dog park “I don’t know what the next step is,” he said. As interim canine control officer I think a dog park is a great idea and long overdue here in Dedham. It would be nice to have a place where the dogs could run,play and interact safely. I would be willing to help out any way I can.   more ›
