"Mad Men”-themed Gala Marks End to Dedham Reads Together Town-wide Read Program Featuring ‘60’s Classic "The Right Stuff" and "Breakfast at Tiffany's."

Dedham Library Innovation Team Announces Books for 2013 'Dedham Reads Together' Event

In celebration of the event, the Dedham Library Innovation Team is organizing several 1960s theme events for the community.

The Dedham Library Innovation Team (DLIT), announced the two book finalists for the “Dedham Reads Together 2013” program.  Based on a poll that was conducted last fall, Dedham residents voted for two books; "The Right Stuff" by Thomas Wolfe, and "Breakfast at Tiffany’s" by Truman Capote, according to the press release.   Copies of each book are available at The Blue Bunny and both Dedham libraries. Because "The Right Stuff" and "Breakfast at Tiffany's" take place in the early 1960’s, DLIT has chosen this time period as a theme for the celebration.   There will be several specially-themed events planned for February, March, and early April. The kick-off event will feature a traveling planetarium from the Boston Museum of Science, as well …

Spotlight Turned on Dedham Civic Groups

More than two dozen groups came together to share experiences and drive engagement.

For the first time, 28 non-profit, Dedham-based groups came together Monday night at the Endicott Estate to connect and discuss how they can help each other. Organized by the recently formed Dedham Shines, the evening brought together long-standing pillars like the Dedham Historical Society with newer organizations like the Dedham Public Art Project, formed just months ago. There were small groups like 4Cs for Kids and the John Thomas and Special Friends Fund to the much larger Dedham Square Circle and the Dedham Public Library. "Our organization, that's our mission, to get community engaged," said Jennifer Barsamian, co-founder of Dedham Shines. With several neighborhood-oriented groups like the Mother Brook Community Group, Oakdale …

Speakeasy Party a Hit for DLIT [VIDEO]

The party capped off Dedham Reads, a month-long event.

Nearly 200 guests got into the spirit of a Prohibition-style party Friday evening as part of Dedham Library Innovation Team's Dedham Reads program. The month-long celebration had residents reading common books and attending themed events throughout the month of March. That was capped off Friday with a Speakeasy party with era-like dresses and cocktails.  Money raised from the event is set to benefit the Dedham Public Library.
