The Marauders lost to rival Norwood 48-18 in their 83rd annual Thanksgiving Day game.
Turnovers and a sluggish start hurt the Marauders Thursday as they lost the 83rd annual Thanksgiving showdown with archrival Norwood, 48-18. The loss at Veteran’s Field was especially tough for the team’s 22 seniors, a group that made up half of the team’s roster. “We gave them the ball to score touchdowns, and in our own zone,” Dedham’s Mikyle Hill said after his final game playing in the crimson and gray. “That’s what really hurt us.” The direction of the game was evident early on when only two plays into the game the Mustangs recovered a fumble on a Marauder reverse at the Dedham 39-yard line. Norwood quarterback Tommy Munro’s resulting pass to Peter Kelly in the back corner of the end zonewould be just one iteration of a common scene …

DHS began Friday night football play, but lost its first home game to Walpole 27-0.
A high school tradition finally made its way to Whiting Avenue as the Dedham High School football team played its first game under the Friday night lights. More than 1,000 fans turned out for the grand opening of the new $3 million athletic complex and thanking of donors who helped raise an additional $225,000 for lights. As a crisp night wore on, the Walpole offense wore down Dedham's defense en route to a 27-0 win - the Marauders' first true home game since November 2009. Heading into halftime with 7-1 Walpole, now 8-1 on the season, the Marauders (2-7) trailed by only a touchdown, and had done well containing Walpole's dangerous rushing attack, holding Walpole's potent senior tandem of Shane Blass and Craig Hanley to 55 yards on the …

Dedham fell 33-27 to Sharon on Saturday.
A monumental comeback fell just short for the Dedham High School Marauders football team in their season opener Saturday at Sharon. Sharon ran to a season-opening 33-27 victory over visiting Dedham, but Mother Nature beat up both teams. Eagles junior Sean Asnes ran for four touchdowns and sophomore Evantz Elisma ran for another during the debuts of both teams' head coaches, Sharon's Dave Morse and Dedham's Dave Flynn. Afterward, Morse and Flynn said the warm weather -- more like late August than early October -- caused their players to cramp up, forcing unexpected line-up changes. "When we play in September early in the day, it's a common thing," Morse said. "I was scouting [Friday] night, and even the night players were cramping up. So I …

With new coach Dave Flynn at the helm, Dedham football started preseason Monday.
Dedham football started its 2011 season Monday at Condon Park as new coach Dave Flynn put his team through a series of first-day drills for 3 1/2 hours. For a team that struggled to keep cleats on the sidelines in 2010, Flynn had 53 athletes suited up for practice Monday. Dedham will face Sharon on the road on Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. to start the 2011 season. The Marauders' first home game is Friday, Sept. 23 against Weston.
