Kids' Comedy Night Serves Up Laughs in Dedham

Event offers children and adults the chance to make jokes while raising funds for a Pan Mass Challenge team.

At least 20 local residents battled the heat as they visited the Blue Bunny Books and Toys in Dedham Square on Friday night. They were able to "grin and bear it." The Blue Bunny and local nonprofit Catching Joy hosted a Kids' Comedy Night, an event providing local children and adults the opportunity to share laughs, jokes and magic with their peers.  "We hope we can bring laughter to people who can use it," Catching Joy founder and executive director Joy Surprenant said.  Catching Joy promotes teaching hands-on activities for children and adults to help them understand the joy of giving. Friday's event allowed the nonprofit to spread its message while helping raise money for Team Chuckle, a Pan Mass Challenge team featuring Boston-based …

Kids will help raise money for charity by eliciting laughs.

The event, sponsored by the non-profit organization Catching Joy, which teaches kids about volunteerism, will raise money for a Pan Mass Challenge team. "Whenever Joy has an idea to help kids get more involved with the community and helping others, we’re happy to provide a venue," said Janet Reynolds, manager of the shop. Kids will meet children's book author Leo Landry, who will share his book "Grin and Bear It" and help kids with their jokes. Landry also will be on hand to sign his book and a portion of the proceeds will go toward the Pan Mass Challenge team. Children can get in front …

Dedham Borders to Close, Town Cites Change in Industry, Not Location

The 25,000 square foot store at Legacy Place will liquidate its merchandise, then close for good.

Borders at Legacy Place will begin liquidation and eventually close its doors, Borders Group announced Monday in a statement. Open for almost 13 months, the 25,000 square-foot store survived the initial cut in February when Borders announced the closing of six Massachusetts stores. "It's too bad. You hate to see the whole industry change like that," said Karen O'Connell, Dedham's economic development director. "It has nothing to do with the Dedham location." When Borders first opened, employees at the Blue Bunny Books and Toys in Dedham Square were worried, manager Janet Reynolds said Tuesday. "It may help us," Reynolds said. "It might effect us during the liquidation process though." The store will undergo liquidation, a process that …
