New Dedham Bylaw Allows Stores to Open Early on Black Friday
Several stores will open as early as midnight on Friday, Nov. 25.
Capitalizing on a new bylaw passed at May's Town Meeting, several stores received permission Thursday evening from the Dedham Board of Selectmen to open as early as midnight on Black Friday - the top shopping day for many stores across the country. Before this year, stores caught open early would be fined $50 - and that fine still applies if the store didn't seek selectmen approval. Each applicant had to fill out a questionnaire created by Dedham Police Chief Michael d'Entremont. In each case, d'Entremont recommended the stores hire police details.
