McMurtry Tosses Hat in Ring for 2012 State Seat

Dedham's Paul McMurtry will run for re-election in 2012.

State Rep. Paul McMurtry announced Tuesday that he will seek a fourth term in the State House. McMurtry, a 45-year-old Democrat from Dedham, was first elected to represent the 11th Norfolk district in May 2007 in a special election. "It's an opportunity to, at least try to, in the most sincere attempt, to cut through the red tape," McMurtry said. "[The job] is constantly changing and evolving." McMurtry represents Dedham, Westwood and a section of Walpole. After running unopposed in 2008 and 2010, McMurtry said he still will prepare for a challenger in 2012. Polling Place Switch: Oakdale School Out, Middle School In

Precincts 4 and 6 will vote at the Dedham Middle School in four elections in 2012.

Dedham voters in Precincts 4 and 6 will have a new place to cast their ballots in the four elections in 2012. Town Clerk Paul Munchbach presented his plan to the Board of Selectmen Thursday, and they agreed, to move the two precincts from Oakdale Elementary School to Dedham Middle School. "We identified probably a location that seems to have the most concerns when talking with the police and the chief," Munchbach said. "A lot of it has to do with the traffic flow on Cedar Street and Madison Street." The move will allow for better parking for voters and easier access, while making for few disruptions to the school, Munchbach said. Newton Mayor to Run for Senate Against Scott Brown

Setti Warren announces he will run against Scott Brown in 2012 race.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren has just announced that he will be a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Republican Scott Brown. As mayor, Warren said in a press release that he has put Newton back on a financially sustainable path, while maintaining critical community services.  He also said he has saved Newton taxpayers $8 million while delivering two balanced budgets.   The Warren press release says he intends to remain a strong, involved, and hands-on mayor throughout the upcoming campaign. Warren is an Iraq War veteran, and served a year-long tour of duty there as a naval intelligence specialist, before being elected mayor.  He also worked in the Clinton White House, and has been the New England Regional Director of …
