It seems like just yesterday, that a fresh group of first grade students gathered together for the first time in the Oakdale Elementary School gymnasium. Parents stood by and watched anxiously, as their “little ones” were called together by class. Five years have passed since that September morning in 2008. Those wide-eyed “little ones” are now the upper-classmen in the Elementary School. The U.S. Senate candidates have one week to go before voters head to the polls.
Gabriel Gomez and Edward Markey spent their final debate before next week's U.S. Senate special election clashing over their records and who has the better vision for both their commonwealth and their country. The debate, taped in Boston, broadcast on several local networks and moderated by veteran city newsman and Boston University professor R.D. Sahl, was the last of three contests before voters head to the polls to fill U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's former seat. No matter the issue, be it taxes, gun control, abortion, national security and their own personal and professional histories, the two men found disagreements at every turn. The Dedham Exchange has been serving the community since 1914.
The Dedham Exchange is a non-profit gift shop that has been helping the community through its sales since 1914. Located in Dedham Square, the shop offers a wide variety of items from local artist and close to 200 consignors. And what's surprising to many is that the employees who work there are all volunteers. The shop has a volunteer board of thirty people and two staff people who usually work part-time. Jinna Parker has been volunteering at the shop for the last 18 years. "What I love about this shop is that we give all of our profits back to the Dedham community," she said. Last year, the shop was able to help 10 organizations which included Dedham Civic Pride, the Dedham Food Pantry, Dedham Middle School and the shop even provided two…
Dedham native Roberta Hill has been running her massage business in Weymouth Landing for 16 years.
