- McMurtry represents 11th Norfolk district which consists of the town of Westwood, Dedham, and parts of Walpole.
- He first entered the public office in 2007 when he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
- He is the owner of Dedham Community Theater and has been associated with various organizations, such as Dedham Rotary Club, and Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts.
- McMurtry graduated from Dedham High School and he earned his B.S. from Northeastern University.
