The Avery Elementary School opened in April 2012 and is one of four schools that teaches students in grades one through five. The new building, roughly 61,000 square feet, is about twice as large as the former school. The school also features two playgrounds. The "cornerstone" of East Dedham can hold more than 300 students, and overlooks the Dedham High School athletic complex. Avery hosts a summer institute for students entering kindergarten through fifth grade. During the school year, students can participate in the After School Enrichment program.
