Monday Essentials: Yoga, Free Folk Music and a Speaker Series

Here's a look at what's scheduled for the week ahead in Dedham. 

Yoga for Stiff People

Check out the first of eight classes of yoga for stiff people starting Monday, Jan. 6. The classes run from 5-5:50 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Cost is $60 for eight classes, plus a make-up class. To register or for more information, email kellywesternyoga@gmail.com or call 781-405-4559.

Dedham Choral Society Open Rehearsals 

If you enjoy music and performing in a large chorus with instrumental accompaniment under inspiring musical direction in beautiful churches and concert halls, head over to an open rehearsal of the Dedham Choral Society on Wednesday, Jan. 8 and Wednesday, Jan. 15  at 7 p.m. at the Allin Congregational Church, 683 High St., in Dedham. Regular Rehearsals are held Wed. evenings from 7:30-10 p.m. For more info, visit dedhamchoral.org or email join@dedhamchoral.org.

Free Talk for Women: The Process of Transformation

Visions HealthCare is hosting an introductory talk to kick off a transformational group for women called The Gathering on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 11:45 a.m. The talk will discuss how fear, negative energy patterns, and self-limiting beliefs can hold people from living their intended lives. The Gathering is a women's group that meets weekly to unravel these hindrances and make room for growth and expression of who you really are. The talk will be facilitated by respected Teacher & Healer, Patricia Howard.

Paddy Mills in Concert

Head over to the Paradise Cafe in Dedham Square on Friday, Jan. 10 at 8:30 p.m. to enjoy a performance by Paddy Mills, winner of the 2013 Woody Guthrie Folk Festival Songwriting Contest for his song "Bayside Massacre", and winner of the Rose Garden 2013 Performing Songwriter of the Year. The event is free and for all ages, and will feature beer, wine and food.

Free Talk on Human Trafficking

St Mary's Social Justice Group will kick off their quarterly speaker series with a presentation on Human Trafficking, Hidden in Plain Sight on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Parish. Peter DiMarzio, Victim Assistance Specialist with Homeland Security Investigations, Boston will give the presentation. DiMarzio will discuss indicators of human trafficking, victims state of mind, forms of immigration relief, and what has been happening in our own backyards here in Massachusetts.
