Get your DOT on!

This week we are gearing up for International Dot Day, a celebration of creativity inspired by the book THE DOT by Peter H. Reynolds.  Now in its 5th year, International Dot Day currently has nearly one million participants around the world registered to "make their mark" on or around September 15th, the 10th anniversary of the publication of the book.  The Blue Bunny and Peter Reynolds will be celebrating with three events over the Dot Day weekend.

On Friday September 13th, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Bunny, we’ll be hosting a "Dot Day Bedtime Storytime with our friends from Catching Joy.  Catching Joy is one of our partner non-profits whose mission is to promote volunteerism and the joy of giving in young children and their families. We'll be reading THE DOT and other books about "making your mark."  Then we'll make dot pictures and turn them into cards to give to others.  There will be "dot" refreshments too!  As always, it’s free and all are welcome!  Wear your pjs or "dot" clothes!

The next morning, on Saturday September 14th, from 10:30 to 1:30 p.m., we’ll have our official 10th anniversary celebration of THE DOT.  To mark the occasion, Candlewick Press has come out with a brand new "Make your Mark" kit including a copy of the book, a blank book, and a set of watercolor pencils.  Peter will be signing books, and while you are here, you can add your mark to our giant Blue Bunny “dot” with Peter H. Reynolds

Finally, on Sunday September 15th, 1 to 4 p.m., The Blue Bunny gang will be traveling out to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, where they are honoring Peter H. Reynolds with a daylong Dot Day celebration on September 15th.  Peter will be presenting at 1 p.m., followed by a book signing.  Additional activities include story readings, screenings of the film versions of Peter's books The Dot, Ish, and Sky Color, and hands-on dot-making in the art studio.  It would great if some of our friends could join us for this cool event.

Anyone can celebrate Dot day with their friends, classrooms, or other gatherings! Learn more about it and sign up on the website www.thedotclub.org.
