Creative Inspiration for Back-to-School!

Well, it’s been a great summer, but now September is here, along with back-to-school obligations.  At The Blue Bunny, while we have loved helping you and your kids find the perfect and fun summer reads, we also know that September is a great time to get some creative inspiration from books.  Why not start the school year with a picture book to help coax the summer brain back into creative gear?!

Not surprisingly, our go-to books for inspiration are the Peter H. Reynolds “creatrilogy” of THE DOT, ISH, and SKY COLOR.  Many of us worry about our kids being pressured into strict academic standards at the expense of their natural talents and individual learning styles.  These three books, all written and illustrated by Peter, have been bestsellers for a reason.  They gently suggest to kids (and grown-up kids) that you can be brave and do more than you think you can (The DOT), not everything needs to be perfect (ISH), and you can “color” your work in lots of different ways (SKY COLOR).  As always, Peter will sign and personalize these or any of his books for a truly special gift.

If you already have your Peter H. Reynolds collection, you might want to check out some works by our good friend Barney Saltzberg that are right up our alley. Barney’s artful masterpiece BEAUTIFUL OOPS demonstrates how “mistakes” can be turned into treasures.  And his recent ANDREW DREW AND DREW offers a great exercise in creative and artistic exploration.

Other favorites are the works of Todd Parr, Lois Ehlert, and Eric Carle.  Visit us at The Blue Bunny to see our full collection of back-to-school books.  We think it’s going to be a great school year, and we’d love to share our picks with you.

Do you have a favorite back-to-school book?  Stop by before September 15th with your best suggestion and we’ll enter you in a drawing to win a specially packaged 10th anniversary edition of THE DOT, with blank book and watercolor pencils.
