Flag Day Parade is Tonight

Organizers say that they still plan to have the Flag Day parade tonight.

Every year thousands gather in Dedham for the Flag Day parade, but this year there will be a few changes.

Usually the parade starts in Dedham Square. However, with the Dedham Square construction, the parade will start on East Street by the Dedham Middle School.

Another change was the candy policy.  According to Dedham Police, some children were almost hit by cars because they would try to chase the candy being thrown from vehicles.  So this year the organizers are banning anyone from throwing candy from moving vehicles.

"However, participants that are walking are allowed to hand out candy from the street as long as it is not being thrown,"Debbie Anderson, Assistant Director of Dedham Park and Recreation said. "This helps us to assure the safety of the young children that some of the drivers in the larger vehicles cannot see.

According to The National Weather Service, it shouldn't rain  tonight.  However, if that changes the parade will be moved to Sunday, June 16 at 6 p.m.
