Dedham, South Boston Battle Tuesday to Settle Tie

Game two of Senior Babe Ruth finals was suspened in the 10th at 3-3 due to darkness.

The South Shore Babe Ruth World Series between Dedham and South Boston continues on, surprisingly without a game two winner, as they battled to a 3-3 tie in 10 innings Monday evening.

The game was suspended due to darkness as South Boston extended the game in both the bottom of the seventh and in the bottom of the eighth against Dedham ace Mike Ryan.

"[Ryan] had an outstanding performance," said Dedham manager Kevin Hampe.

Ryan pitched nine innings, striking out 12 South Boston hitters, and scattering nine hits and walking two. Unfortunately, he fell victim to two South Boston hit-and-runs in both the seventh and eighth that led to the tying runs and keep Dedham off victory lane.

"We had them in the bottom of the seventh," said Hampe, as his team let a win slip away for the second night in a row in the final frame.

The game was halted with two outs in the 10th, and Dedham still at bat in the top of the inning. The game will resume Tuesday evening in South Boston. Dedham needs a win to extend the series and force a game back in Dedham on Wednesday night.

Dedham jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Ben Walsh doubled, advanced on a error and scored on a fielder’s choice.

The lead slipped out of their hands in the seventh, but Jason Riley tripled in the eighth and Dedham looked like they would swing the momentum back in their favor when John Bethoney singled for the 3-2 lead.

With two outs in the eighth, however, Dedham couldn’t shut the door on the resilient South Boston team. As they utilized a second hit-and-run play to tie the game.

Dedham pitcher Kevin Boudrow will take the hill for Dedham when play resumes.

"At this point we are trying to extend the series," said Hampe said in a phone interview. "We are confident in Kevin Boudrow, [he] has pitched well this year and we will see what he can do."
