Dedham Metrowest Complete Season Undefeated
The end result was a 43-13 victory for Dedham, their twelfth win in a row.
They came from towns as far away as Southboro, Framingham, Weston, Ma. and Barrington, RI. They included the neighboring towns of Norwood, Westwood, Needham, and Newton. Week after week, since the beginning of December, teams of well-prepared 7th grade boys have faced Dedham's Metrowest Basketball Team. But this season, Coach John Maida's powerhouse proved too much for each and every one of their twelve opponents.
On a raw and rainy Sunday morning, parents, coaches, and players, made the hour-long drive from Rhode Island to the Dedham High School gym.

Due to injury and illness, only seven of Dedham's elite eleven players were available at game time. Veteran Coach John Maida knew exactly what he had to do, stay on top of his team. From the opening buzzer, both teams' coaches, called in plays and coverage from the sideline.
But this week, in spite of being shorthanded, the Dedham boys played one of their best defensive games of the season.

Every time Barrington got in on the paint, the Dedham players stepped up coverage, and didn't allow an open shot at the basket.
The end of the first quarter saw Dedham with a 14-0 lead, which grew to 22-3 by the half.
In spite of a comfortable 33-8 lead as the game wore on, John Maida got even more involved.
“It doesn't matter what the score is, or what team you're playing, the game is not over until that final buzzer,” Maida said. “I'd never let these guys feel too complacent, you have to play, and play hard, right to the very end.”
Davin Sweeney, Liam Dorsey, and Dylan Maida combined for almost 30 points and 8 rebounds. Nick Loring played amazing defense and got 7 rebounds.
Ty Scurry netted 8 points and pulled in 5 rebounds of his own.
Corey Kilroy's hustle got him 6 points and 6 rebounds, while Mark Rella provided the relief the boys needed.
The end result was a lopsided 43-13 victory for Dedham, their twelfth win in a row. As the team filed off the floor after shaking hands with their opponents, John Maida told us once again – “I knew I liked this team, they've worked real hard and they've done very well… playoffs begin this weekend.”
