Students were kept in their homerooms until the firefighters and the building inspector could evaluate the situation.

students have begun to proceed with their normal school day after a brief interruption Monday morning.

According to an e-mail from DMS principal Debra Gately, a window shattered unexpectedly in a computer lab. Students were held in their homerooms until firefighters and the building department could inspect it.

Builiding commissioner Ken Cimeno said the window shattered because of a heavy amount of snow on the roof above the window, according to Town Administrator Bill Keegan.

She said it appeared to be an isolated incident and the school will relocate classes scheduled to meet in the affected room.

Keegan said in a statement that it was unclear if the window shattered this morning or over the weekend.

Another person at the school noticed that one of the sprinkler heads near where the broken window was located appeared to be lower than others in the area, Keegan stated.

Keegan insisted that there aren't further concnerns about the roof at this time and the snow seems to be an issue in the one particular area of the roof.

Town engineers will evaluate the roof Monday afternoon, Keegan stated, adding that it is a newly constructed roof that was built to modern-day safety standards.
