Student Gives Teacher Mohawk for Charity

Oakdale teacher Ed Paris volunteered his head for the event.

Fundraisers, fundraisers and more fundraisers. All of us have been involved contributing to or collecting for one fundraiser or another. From the kids at school, to the parish bake sale - from Girl Scout cookies, to carwashes, to raffle tickets.

When the fifth grade class at needed to raise
money for upcoming activities, principal Holli Armstrong suggested a meeting with their beloved fourth grade teacher, Ed Paris.

Mr. Paris has been at the Oakdale School for two years now, and is known
and loved for getting involved in school projects. After a series of meetings
and school promotions, the group came up with a plan.

Inspired by the Boston Bruins and their charitable "Cuts for a Cause"
promotion, Mr. Paris agreed to put "his head" on the line and have it shaved in school.

Ms. Armstrong loved the idea and secured the services of a "Celebrity Barber", Dedham hairstylist Jeanne DeSario. So on a recent Friday afternoon, before the end of the school day, everything was in place. Mr. Paris sat on a chair in the  middle of the Oakdale gym, surrounded by almost 300 cheering students and teachers. Raffle winner Jack Linari, a fifth grade student, was called to the floor. There, he joined principal Armstrong, PTO President Laura Park and Mrs. DeSario. The group got "busy" and within minutes Mr. Paris was sporting a mohawk, which was sprayed pink. The event exceeded everyone’s expectations and almost $1,000 was raised for the fifth grade class.
