Girl's Basketball, Hockey Notch Wins

Dedham beat Needham on the ice and the Marauders took care of Innovation Academy on the hardwood.

The Dedham High School girl's basketball team blew out its second opponent in as many games as they defeated Innovation Academy Charter School 50-28 on Wednesday evening.

The Marauders received 10 points from senior Jenna Savi, her second consecutive double-digit scoring effort of the season, and nine points from junior Emily Hill.

With a 35-11 halftime lead, Dedham spread the ball around in the second half as all 10 girls on the roster made it into the scoring column.

Dedham travels to Needham Friday to open Bay State competition.

The Dedham girl's hockey team improved to 2-0 in the Bay State and 3-0 overall Wednesday evening with a commanding 6-1 win over Needham.

Sophomore Colleen Downing and freshman Samantha Girard both had two goals and a pair of assists. Senior Tara Celata added two goals as well.

Dedham's Emily Mosca stopped 17 of 18 shots in net for the Marauders, who will face Weymouth on Wednesday.

Dedham picked up a 8-4 win against Wellesley on Monday and a 5-0 win against Norwell over the weekend.

Needham Blanks Dedham Boy's Hockey

The Needham Rockets outshot Dedham 28-15 Wednesday evening en route to a 2-0 win against the Marauders in boy's hockey action.

Dedham senior Jim Riley made 26 saves in goal, but allowed two goals late in the second period. The first came as Dedham had just killed a penalty and the second came as the Marauders were down a man.

The Rockets finished 2-for-3 with the man advantage.

"I felt that, especially in the first and third periods, we generated a lot of chances," coach Paul Podolski said. "I'm pleased with the way we played."

Dedham next faces Wellesley on Saturday evening.
