DMS Recognizes Honor Roll Students

A ceremony was held to recognize the 276 students who made the honor roll.

Making the honor roll certainly provides a sense of accomplishment for a student. The praise received from this accomplishment can also be a powerful motivator for the other children in the class or in the school.

principal Debra Gately and Vice Principal Margo Fraczek recently held three separate Honor Roll Recognition assemblies, during the school day, to prove just that.

Class by class, the students in grades six through eight were brought to the school's auditorium along with their teachers, guidance counselors, and parents that were able to attend.

Ms. Gately spoke to each group and told them how proud she was of their success this term and that, as the year goes on, the harder it becomes to achieve this honor. She reminded the entire assembly that it's never too late to set new goals, to try harder, to give your best effort, and to adjust the path you were headed down.

Principal Gately said that by recognizing the achievements of those students that did well, more students will become involved and try harder. There was such a positive energy in the room, the teachers and staff agreed that rewarding the students and having them receive recognition from their peers was a wonderful idea.

Grade by grade, Ms. Gately read the names of the students that received honors and high honors and asked them to stand. The students who achieved all A's or A's and B's were then invited to come to the stage. Each student in grades seven and eight received free "passes" to buy items from the school's cafeteria and the students in grade six were treated to an ice cream sundae party to end their day.

In total: 116 students in grade six, 88 students in grade seven, and 72 students in grade eight were recognized for recieving honors and high honors this term.

Congratulations to all. Good Luck to everyone.
