The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Middle Level Educators (COMMLE) has developed and recommended a criteria for the selection of one boy and one girl each year who have served as a positive role model for their peers. The school also considers students that have proven themselves academically and who have demonstrated leadership in both classroom and school activities. Both Joe and Elizabeth support school goals, volunteer in the community, and show respect for themselves and others.

On May 23, Balzarini and Borsellino join their counterparts from more than 50 other participating communities across the state, at an awards banquet in Marlborough. principal Debra Gately and vice principal Margo Fraczek are always proud of their students achievements and believe in the value of "positive recognition."
