When the Dedham Youth Commission started the College Bound Program, the goal was to inspire Dedham's middle school students to feel excited about college.
This year the program enrollment has reached an all-time high with 60 7th grade students signing up for the free program. That's double the amount from last year.
“The goal of College Bound is to excite students about college, expose them to various careers, and encourage them to lead healthy lives,” Youth Commission Director Robert Blaney told the Boston Globe.
On May 24, the Dedham Youth Commission will be holding a fundraiser at the American Legion, 155 Eastern Ave. in Dedham, to raise additional funds for the program.
The night will feature '70s karaoke, a '70s themed Price is Right Game show with prizes, Disco music and Dancing with a a lit up dance floors and disco lights. The raffle items include Red Sox tickets, ipod, gift cards to local restaurants and more.
The event is open to those over 21-years-old and costs $15 to attend. The Dedham Youth Commission is also encouraging all participants to wear their favorite '70s attire.
