Dedham Public Schools Art Show at Dedham Middle School

For the past eight months, since the beginning of the school year, over 2,000 students enrolled in Dedham`s seven public schools, have been working on their "art projects."

On Thursday, May 23, 2013  from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Dedham Middle School will be the gracious host of our town's 6th Annual Dedham Public School's District-Wide Art Show.

Under the direction and guidance of Jessica Grassis, Maureen O'Sullivan, Sarah Dempsey, Arlene Tracey, Sarah Altone, Bridget Castonquay, and Kristin Prata, these students, in grades pre-K through 12, have worked tirelessly on their creations.

Their art teachers have selected upwards of 1,000 pieces, including drawings, watercolors, sketches, portraits, sculpture, and photography to put on display for the town to see.

Countless hours have been spent, sorting, cropping, mounting and preparing all of this work. Now it is time to proudly display these works to the public.

The first Dedham Public School's Art Show was held in May of 2008, at the newly opened Middle School. Superintendent of Schools, June Doe, has always been a strong supporter of the arts. She, along with the new Director of Fine Arts, Jeffrey Bolduc, believe that “the arts” play an important part in each child's education.

This annual event, not only provides our students with an opportunity to express themselves, but the exhibit allows them to share their work with their peers, family, and neighbors.

To date, the best quote we've heard – to perfectly sum up the District Wide Art Show: “the halls of the Dedham Middle School are transformed in to galleries… it`s like going to a museum, except you know all of the artists.” We`ll see you at the school on Thursday, May 23.
