Dedham Girl's Soccer Nabs Fifth Seed

The Marauders will play Norton out of the Tri-Valley League on Monday.

The Dedham girl's soccer team will enter the South Division 2 playoffs as a five seed and face Tri-Valley League opponent Norton Monday evening at 5 p.m. at .

Coach Don Savi's squad enters winners of five in a row and will face a 10-5-3 Lancer team.

"We're just happy to have a home game right now," coach Don Savi said. "We're hoping to play well against Norton and go from there."

The Marauders will start the 2011 MIAA playoffs with their highest seeding since 2007, when they lost to Oliver Ames in the South finals.

Last season, Dedham earned wins against Old Rochester and Ashland at home before dropping a road game 2-1 to Duxbury.

Along with a five-game winning streak and a share of the Herget Division crown, the Marauders carry three Bay State League first-team all-stars into the match against Norton - seniors Jenna Savi and Sarah Warjas, and junior Emily Hill.

"We finished strong winning our last five to give us a shot at [the title]," Savi said. "It was one of our goals. We felt we had a good team."

The winner of Monday's match will face the winner of Dighton Rehoboth and Cardinal Spellman on Wednesday.

Savi said he didn't know much about Norton, except that they have a strong midfield.

"They are a good team that plays in a pretty good league," Savi said.
