Avery Students Raise Funds for School Affected by Hurricane Sandy

Avery students were able to raise over $300 for P.S. 52, an elementary school in Staten Island that was affected by the storm.

On Thursday, Dec. 20 Avery Elementary School students worked together and raised $342.26 for P.S. 52 in Staten Island, NY, a school that fell victim to Hurricane Sandy.

P.S. 52 students have been attending school at a nearby school since the hurricane and the Avery School Student Council Fundraising Committee created a fundraiser to provide them with the supplies that they need.

Student Council members created a “Hats on for Hurricane Sandy Students” day.  Students and teachers were permitted to wear their hats all day with a nominal $1 donation.

Many students and staff donated additional funds to the cause.  Student Council members advertised for the fundraiser, and collected and counted the money.  P.S. 52 is very grateful for the donation.
