Avery Students Meet Jeff Kinney

On Sunday, Dec. 16, two Avery students earned the opportunity to meet author and illustrator Jeff Kinney at the Blue Bunny.

Avery School’s Library hosted an essay contest. 47 entrants wrote persuasive paragraphs about why they should be chosen to meet Jeff Kinney.

Jason Walsh (2nd grade) and Alexander Sountoulidis (1st grade) wrote the winning pieces. Francesca Gentile (5th grade) and Audrey Cusack (3rd grade) earned honorable mentions. Jason Walsh, when asked about what meeting Jeff Kinney meant to him said that it was a special moment.

“He signed my books," Walsh said. "When I get older I will have them to remember that special moment.”

Avery School has “Wimpy Kid fever.” Upon release of the newest book, The Third Wheel, a running raffle is taking place in the school library. 74 students entered their names in a raffle to read the 5 copies that the library owns. Thank you to Jeff Kinney for igniting such a love of reading!
