Avery School Celebrates Halloween With Costume Parade

Avery School celebrated Halloween on Thursday with a giant costume parade.

Students in first and second grade paraded around the Dedham school in their costumes while the upperclassmen cheered for them.

Avery Principal Claire Sullivan said the parade is held every year for the students along with a pumpkin decorating contest and a variety of school - related Halloween activities.

"It's the biggest holiday for children," Sullivan said. "They get so excited."

Second grade teacher Alison Kieffner said the event is the first time the second grade students were able to participate.

"They're just so excited about Halloween ," she said. "This may be the most fun event of the year."

Kieffner's class not only marched in the parade but they also held a pumpkin weighing contest.

During the parade students dressed from everything from princesses and super heroes to monsters and werewolves.
