Warrants for Special Town Meeting Set by Board of Selectmen

15 items are on the agenda for the Nov. 15 meeting.

The Board of Selectmen Thursday evening unanimously recommended 15 warrant articles go in front of Special Town Meeting on Nov. 15.

Those articles include:

  • Approval of eight collective bargaining contracts
  • A series of specific line item budgetary transfers
  • Base the senior work-off expemption (seniors volunteer to reduce their property tax bill) on number of hours instead of a dollar amount
  • Allow tax payers to pay any deliquent real estate tax without having to pay interest or penalty charges
  • Relocate the adult use overlay district to near Legacy Place
  • Allow sale of alcohol beverages by hotels and restaurants between 10 a.m. and noon on Sundays.

Selectmen thanked the vendors and organizers of the Dedham Farmers Market at Thursday evening's meeting. Market organizers said they enjoyed a successful season and had brought in new foods that went over well with the buying public. The board suggested that the market look to expansion by closing off the back two rows of the Keystone lot for next season.

Dedham 375 Taking Applications

The Dedham 375 steering committee is taking applications to fill seats on its board. This committee will oversee the planning and spending of funds for 2011's year-long celebration of Dedham's 375th birthday. The board voted to waive the 30-day notice period due to time constraints of the committee at chairman Sarah MacDonald's recommendation.

Selectmen, Parks and Rec Appoint New Commissioner

The Board of Selectmen and Parks and Recreation Commission appointed Dan Hart to fill the vacancy left by Kevin Flaherty, who resigned last month. Hart said the first priority of the board should be to interview and hire a new director. Bob Stanley currently is serving as the acting director.
